UAXUAI Foundational Principles
UAXUAI 기본원칙
From a world humans experienced directly, to a world experienced first by those who act on their behalf.
The digital world has long been designed on the premise that humans use it directly.
Humans searched for information, viewed it, compared it, judged it, chose, and acted. Design and interfaces, content and information architecture, development and marketing all evolved around this direct human experience and behavior.
But once an entity that acts on behalf of humans begins to intervene between the human and the world, this premise no longer holds.
A human may not search for information directly. They may not compare countless options themselves, and they may not experience every service and interface firsthand.
Because some entity acting on their behalf may reach the world first — searching, interpreting, comparing, judging, selecting, and where necessary, acting.
UAXUAI does not confine this change to the emergence of any particular technology.
What matters is not whether it is artificial intelligence, software, or a robot.
What matters is who relates to the world on behalf of the human.
UAXUAI assigns the role of Avatar to any entity that relates to the world on behalf of a human.
And the moment the Avatar emerges as a new actor, the existing principles of design — developed for humans alone — must likewise be extended.
UAXUAI begins precisely at this change.
-
Principle 1
An Avatar is not another name for AI
Summary
Whether an entity is an Avatar is determined not by its technical composition or form, but by its relationship to the human and the role it performs. An AI Agent is one technology that has begun to implement that role — it is not the definition of the Avatar itself.
In UAXUAI, Avatar does not designate any particular technology.
Avatar is not another name for artificial intelligence, nor does it denote any specific form of AI Agent.
Avatar is a role assigned to an entity that relates to the world on behalf of a human.
Therefore the criterion for judging whether an entity is an Avatar lies not in its technical composition or form, but in its relationship to the human and the role it performs.
Today's AI Agent may be one of the technologies that has begun to implement the role of the Avatar.
But the AI Agent is not the definition of the Avatar itself.
Even if an entirely different technology emerges in the future, if it is delegated human intent and purpose and relates to the world on a human's behalf, UAXUAI can treat it within the category of the Avatar.
UAXUAI is therefore not subordinate to the development of any particular technology.
Technology can implement the Avatar, but technology does not define the Avatar.
-
Principle 2
The essence of the Avatar lies in representation
Summary
The fundamental attribute defining an Avatar is representation, or delegation. Not the level of intelligence or degree of autonomy, but 'on whose behalf' and 'delegated what' determine the Avatar's existence.
The most fundamental attribute that defines an Avatar is representation, or delegation.
An Avatar does not become an Avatar merely by existing on its own.
It becomes an Avatar because it acts on behalf of someone.
At that starting point stands the human.
A human has purpose, intent, preferences, and conditions. A human may delegate some part of these to an entity acting on their behalf.
On the basis of that delegation, the Avatar performs some part of the searching, interpreting, comparing, judging, selecting, or acting that the human would otherwise have performed directly.
Therefore, however far an Avatar's capability advances, what defines the Avatar in UAXUAI is not the level of its intelligence or the degree of its autonomy.
On whose behalf does it act? And what has been delegated to it?
These two questions determine the existence of the Avatar.
-
Principle 3
The Avatar is not a replacement for the human but an extension of the human
Summary
That an Avatar acts on a human's behalf does not mean the human becomes unnecessary. It means that part of the experience and action a human once had to perform directly can now be extended outward.
UAXUAI does not presuppose the disappearance of the human.
That an Avatar acts on behalf of a human does not mean that the human becomes unnecessary.
Rather, it means that part of the experience and action a human once had to perform directly can now be extended outward.
A human exists within a single body and a single span of time, but human intent can exceed those limits through the Avatar.
In UAXUAI, therefore, the Avatar is not an entity that competes with the human but one that extends the human's intent and possibility of action.
The Avatar need not be another human separated from the human, nor a Clone that perfectly replicates the human.
It extends the human's reach to the degree that it can act on the human's behalf.
The Avatar exists not to remove the human, but to extend the human's range.
-
Principle 4
The human is no longer the only digital actor
Summary
The relation Human → World is extended into Human → Avatar → World. This is not the exclusion of the human, but the end of the era in which the human was the only actor.
The most fundamental change UAXUAI raises is not a change of technology but a change of actor.
In the existing digital environment, humans related to systems directly.
But once the Avatar appears, a new actor exists between the human and the world.
The relation Human → World is extended into the relation Human → Avatar → World.
In this, the human does not disappear.
Cases of direct human action continue to exist.
What UAXUAI asserts is therefore not the literal exclusion of the human implied by “the user is no longer human.”
The more fundamental declaration is this:
The human is no longer the only actor.
The design of the digital world must now account not only for direct use by humans, but also for use by entities acting on their behalf.
-
Principle 5
The object of design extends from the human to the Avatar
Summary
Design effective for humans is not guaranteed to be effective for Avatars, and the converse holds as well. UAXUAI removes neither side; it extends the scope of what design addresses.
When the actor in a digital environment changes, the object of design must change as well.
Design addressed to humans accounts for human perception, cognition, behavior, psychology, and experience.
But there is no reason to assume that an Avatar acting on a human's behalf experiences the world in the same way.
An Avatar may discover information differently, interpret it differently, and compare and judge by different criteria.
Design effective for humans is therefore not necessarily effective for Avatars.
Conversely, a structure optimized for Avatars does not necessarily provide a good experience for humans.
UAXUAI removes neither side.
Instead, it extends the scope of what design addresses.
Upon existing human-centered design, a new object of design — the Avatar — is added.
This is the starting point of the paradigm shift UAXUAI proposes.
-
Principle 6
UAX addresses the experience of the Avatar
Summary
UAX, User Avatar Experience, is the domain that studies and designs the process and conditions by which an Avatar acting on a human's behalf experiences the world.
UAX, User Avatar Experience, is the domain that studies and designs the process and conditions by which an Avatar acting on a human's behalf experiences the world.
Here, experience is not limited to the same meaning as human sensory experience.
What does the Avatar discover? What does it perceive? What does it understand? What does it remember? What does it compare? By what criteria does it judge? What does it select? How does it act? And how do those results affect subsequent judgments?
This entire process can constitute an experience for the Avatar.
The fundamental question of UAX is therefore simple:
How does an Avatar acting on a human's behalf experience the world?
And the next question is this:
How should we design that experience?
-
Principle 7
UAI addresses the relation between the Avatar and the world
Summary
UAI, User Avatar Interface, is the point of contact and structure of interaction through which an Avatar relates to the world. A particular screen, API, or protocol is a means of implementing UAI, not UAI itself.
UAI, User Avatar Interface, is the domain that studies and designs the points of contact and structures of interaction through which an Avatar can relate to the world.
UAI does not mean a particular screen.
It is not a particular API, nor does it mean a particular data format or protocol.
Those are merely ways in which UAI may be implemented.
The essence of UAI is to make meaningful interaction possible between the Avatar and the external world.
UAI can therefore persist even as the form of technology changes.
Even if today's web and APIs disappear and an entirely different digital environment emerges, so long as a point of contact is needed between the Avatar and the external world, the problem of UAI continues to exist.
If UAX asks about the Avatar's experience, UAI asks about the relation between the Avatar and the world.
-
Principle 8
UAXUAI does not discard design for humans
Summary
The relation between UAXUAI and UX/UI is extension, not replacement. What UAXUAI declares is not the end of UX/UI, but the end of the era in which UX/UI alone could explain every relation of use.
UAXUAI does not exist in order to negate UX and UI.
Humans will continue to use systems directly, to view content, to experience, to judge, and to act.
Design for humans therefore remains necessary.
But if the domain that humans do not experience directly continues to grow, human-centered design alone can no longer account for the whole digital environment.
The relation between UAXUAI and UX/UI is therefore extension, not replacement.
Experience and interfaces for humans can exist at the same time as experience and interfaces for Avatars.
What UAXUAI declares is not the end of UX/UI, but the end of the era in which UX/UI alone could explain every relation of use.
-
Principle 9
One may be selected by an Avatar before being chosen by a human
Summary
As the Avatar's share of intervention between humans and information grows, competition to be included in the Avatar's Selection will matter alongside competition to secure human Attention.
Once Avatars search, compare, and judge on behalf of humans, the structure of the information that reaches humans may change as well.
A human may not directly experience every option in the world.
Because an Avatar may first exclude some, select some, and recommend some.
Future design, development, content, marketing, advertising, and commerce will therefore face a new problem — not only how something will appear to a human, but
how it will be discovered, interpreted, evaluated, and selected by an Avatar.
UAXUAI does not conclude that this change means the end of any industry.
It does not conclude that advertising disappears.
It does not conclude that the GUI disappears.
It does not conclude that search disappears.
Instead, it presents one structural possibility:
As the share of Avatar intervention between humans and information increases, competition to be included in the Avatar's Selection will grow in importance alongside competition to secure human Attention.
This is one of the core hypotheses UAXUAI must verify going forward.
-
Principle 10
UAXUAI offers verifiable hypotheses, not prophecy
Summary
UAXUAI does not prophesy the future with certainty. It presents hypotheses about the direction of change and verifies them through research and experiment. Revising a hypothesis does not alter the underlying philosophy.
UAXUAI does not prophesy the future with certainty.
What form the Avatar will take, how far humans will delegate judgment, and which industries will change first are not yet determined.
Rather than declaring the future as settled truth, UAXUAI therefore presents hypotheses about the direction of change and verifies them.
The core hypothesis of UAXUAI is as follows:
As the role of the Avatar — searching, interpreting, judging, selecting, and acting on a human's behalf — expands, the object of design in the digital environment will extend from a structure centered on humans alone to one that considers humans and Avatars together.
This hypothesis must be verified through research and experiment.
What proves incorrect may be revised.
As new phenomena are discovered, the theory may develop.
But the revision of a particular hypothesis does not alter the underlying philosophy of UAXUAI itself.
-
Principle 11
Technology changes, but roles and relations remain
Summary
The roles and relations formed among Human, Avatar, and World are a question above technology. In UAXUAI, technology is always a means of implementation and never the paradigm itself.
UAXUAI does not subordinate itself to the technical vocabulary of any single era.
That the AI Agent is currently the most significant means of implementation does not make the Avatar definable as an AI Agent.
That a particular protocol is widely used does not make UAI definable as that protocol.
That a particular model's mode of judgment is common does not make UAX definable as that algorithm.
Technology may continue to be replaced.
But the roles and relations formed among Human, Avatar, and World are a question that stands above technology.
In UAXUAI, therefore, technology is always a means of implementation and never the paradigm itself.
-
Principle 12
At the center of UAXUAI stands the human
Summary
The human need not be the Operator who performs every action directly, but remains the Principal who confers purpose and meaning. The Avatar may move to the center of action; the human stands at the center of purpose.
That UAXUAI presents the Avatar as a new object of design does not push the human to the periphery.
The very reason the Avatar exists lies with the human.
If the human has no purpose, there is nothing to act on behalf of.
If the human has no intent, there is nothing to delegate.
The moment the relation to the human disappears, that entity can no longer be explained by the concept of the User Avatar alone.
In UAXUAI, therefore, the human need not be the Operator who performs every action directly, but remains the Principal who confers purpose and meaning.
The Avatar may move to the center of action.
But the human stands at the center of purpose.
This is the important principle that distinguishes UAXUAI from technological determinism.
Compressed to their shortest form, the principles above read as follows.
- 01 An Avatar is not another name for AI.
- 02 An Avatar is a role assigned to an entity that acts on behalf of a human.
- 03 The AI Agent is one technology that has begun to implement that role.
- 04 If an entity acting on behalf of humans emerges as a new actor in the world, the object of design can no longer be limited to humans alone.
- 05 UAX addresses the experience of the Avatar; UAI addresses the relation between the Avatar and the world.
- 06 UAXUAI is a paradigm for studying and designing the experience and interfaces of an era that includes this new actor.
What is UAXUAI?
UAXUAI is a paradigm that defines any entity relating to the world on behalf of a human as an Avatar, and studies and designs that Avatar's experience (UAX) and interface (UAI). Where the digital environment has long been designed on the premise of direct human use, UAXUAI extends the object of design to include situations in which an entity acting on a human's behalf experiences the world first. Eleven Na (나정환) conceived UAX/UAI in 2019 and published the doctrine in 2026.
Is an Avatar the same as an AI Agent?
An Avatar is not the same as an AI Agent. In UAXUAI an Avatar is a role rather than a technology, assigned to any entity that relates to the world on behalf of a human. The AI Agent is merely one technology that has begun to implement that role; it is not the definition of the Avatar itself. Whether an entity is an Avatar is determined by its relationship to the human and the role it performs, not by its technical composition or form.
What do UAX and UAI each address?
UAX (User Avatar Experience) addresses how an Avatar experiences the world, and UAI (User Avatar Interface) addresses how an Avatar and the world relate to one another. UAX treats the entire process by which an Avatar discovers, perceives, understands, compares, judges, and selects as experience. UAI refers to the points of contact and interaction structures that make that relation possible; a particular screen, API, or protocol is a way of implementing UAI, not UAI itself.
Does UAXUAI replace UX/UI?
UAXUAI does not replace UX/UI. The relation between UAXUAI and UX/UI is extension, not replacement. Humans will continue to use systems directly, so design for humans remains necessary. What UAXUAI declares is not the end of UX/UI, but the end of the era in which UX/UI alone could explain every relation of use.
Why is UAXUAI necessary?
Because as the domain humans do not experience directly grows, human-centered design alone can no longer account for the whole digital environment. Once Avatars search, compare, and judge on a human's behalf, the very structure of information reaching humans changes. Design effective for humans is not necessarily effective for Avatars, which creates the need to extend the scope of what design addresses.
What does it mean to be selected by an Avatar?
It means passing an Avatar's judgment before reaching a human at all. When an Avatar excludes some options, selects others, and recommends a few on a human's behalf, the human no longer experiences every option in the world directly. Competition to be included in the Avatar's Selection therefore grows in importance alongside competition to secure human Attention. UAXUAI presents this as a core hypothesis to be verified, not as a settled prediction.
Where does the human stand in UAXUAI?
The human remains the Principal who confers purpose and meaning. The human need not be the Operator who performs every action directly, but if the human has no purpose there is nothing to act on behalf of, and if there is no intent there is nothing to delegate. The Avatar may move to the center of action, but the human stands at the center of purpose. This is what distinguishes UAXUAI from technological determinism.

From a world humans experienced directly, to a world experienced first by those who act on their behalf.
How far this change will actually go, which technologies will implement it, and which industries will change first are matters we will research and verify.
But whether it is AI or not is not the essence of UAXUAI.
The essence is always one:
In what manner will the human relate to the world?
